Jonas and the kids

If you are interested in Learn to Speed Skate, we’d love you to come out and give it a try! The only requirement is that you know how to skate unassisted.

Who can join? We welcome all ages. Our youngest skaters are usually 5 or 6 and have some previous skating experience. Speed skating includes all ages, with lots of training, racing and coaching training opportunities for teens and adults. It doesn’t matter right now if you are interested in speed skating for recreation and exercise, racing, or if you are just curious. All are welcome at Learn to Speed Skate.

What about skates? We have a large inventory of new and gently used speed skates in a wide range of adult and junior sizes. Skate use is included in the registration fee. In order to help us with planning and to help us ensure skates are available in your size, we need your shoe size in advance (please put this on the registration form), and foot length in cm if at all possible. We’ll double-check sizing on the first session and assign you that pair for the rest of the four sessions.

What about gear? Safe speed skating includes gear! We have a large supply of loaner speed skating helmets, kevlar ankle protectors, knee pads and shin guards. If you have a CSA-approved cycling or hockey helmet, please bring it on the first night just in case. Please bring your own: bib-style neck guard, leather gloves, and skating socks. Elbow pads are also recommended. A water bottle is also a good idea!

How many sessions? Our Learn to Speed Skate Program includes 4 50-minute on-ice sessions, and skate rental, loan of shin pads, helmets and kevlar ankle protectors (as required), for $100.

Where? All sessions are held at the Western Fair District Sports complex, London City Chrysler Rink.

To register your spot: Please print out the registration form, fill it out, and mail it along with a cheque payable to ‘London Speed Skating Club’, to:

LSSC c/o Murray Ebel
696 Headley Drive
London, ON N6H 3V6

You will be contacted to confirm your spot.
